CNEN locates intact Ge-68 column
The National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) recently announced that it had found a stolen Germanium-68 (Ge-68) column with an activity of 30 mCi. The material was found intact in a scrapyard, which was responsible for selling the lead parts to a battery store in Itaquera, São Paulo. With the recovery of the Ge-68 column without any damage, dispersion or contamination, CNEN concluded that the incident was within its jurisdiction. The agency emphasized the crucial role of its emergency structure, which proved to be efficient and committed to public safety and transparency of information. CNEN expressed gratitude to the press for correctly disseminating the information, avoiding alarmism and enabling reports to help in the rapid resolution of the emergency.
